Free Friday Night Hikes

Learn More about Friday Night Hikes

While the Nature Center usually closes at sundown, visitors will have the chance to connect with nature after-hours allowing for a completely different sensory experience as the nocturnal animals take over, and nature truly runs its course. We’ll gather for first hike on March 18th starting at 8:00p.m., return to the meadow about an hour later, and end the evening with some hot cocoa and a warming fire. If you have any questions, please contact the program office at (770) 394-3322.

The leisurely, family oriented hikes will follow trails around the wetlands and back forests of Dunwoody Park. Under the light of the stars and armed with flashlights, Nature Center educators will guide groups through the hike, offering a chance to hear the night time sounds of owls, bats, and other nocturnal creatures as well as the gentle flow of Wildcat Creek. Hikers are encouraged to stick around after the hikes in the Nature Center’s newly renovated meadow to enjoy hot cocoa, take a peek into the Milky Way through our telescope, and huddle by a warm fire in the old fireplace – a remnant of the original homestead on the property. The evening is FREE for the entire family, but please note that strollers are not recommended along the mulched trails.
